About Us

Those stubborn feet made us meet.

We were humble dreamers of The Bull Runner Dream Marathon 2013, an informal school for first-time marathoners.Yes, girls like us wanted to run a full marathon – we were crazy and we still are.

Since then, we train weekly and join several races trying to beat our personal records every time. On Sunday mornings, we wake up before sunrise (around 2AM), put on our running outfit, and meet up to have an LSD (it’s not the hallucinogen most people relate this acronym to; LSD stands for long slow distance). While everyone’s still dreaming, we’re chasing the sun and running towards our dream to become stronger and faster runners. Though it may not be like the training athletes have, we take every session seriously; every mile counts and helps build our strength. More importantly, we are always looking forward to this morning routine than anything else we do for the week.

When we are not running, we always find ways to be outdoors – mountain climbing, paragliding, island hopping, spelunking, and the likes. Even before we have known each other, we were already exploring several places and trying out different things. That must be our common ground. Our feet can’t stand still to be at one place for a long time; we need to move and have something to look forward to.

As our relationship as runners turned friends progressed, we continued to discover a lot about each other’s reveries. Aside from running marathonsand going outdoors, there is a strong desire within us that we cannot really explain but we know that it’s something that needs to be fulfilled.

We dreamed of taking a detour to the so-called “road less traveled”-an unconventional way of living which defines success differently, by doing more of our passion yet still manages to conform to the basic standards of living. Not too many people are able to survive this road of uncertainties, but we believe that it’s better to have tried and failed than not having tried at all. So as long as we are moving and trying, no matter how slow it may be, we are happy.

“The real purpose of running isn’t to win a race; it’s to test the limits of the human heart.”              – Bill Bowerman

Abby – Marathoner. Mountaineer. Wanderlust. Pharmacist. Optimist. Writer. She has worked for pharmaceutical companies in the field of pharma co-vigilance, clinical research, and medical writing. She had always made calculated and safe decisions since she was a child up to the time she finished college and found a job at a reputable company. This quality made climbing the corporate ladder easy for her, but she later on realized that it is not the life she wanted. She felt like a robot, trapped and surrounded by people who constantly fought for recognition and position. Another turning point in her life was when she got her heart-broken pretty badly (yeah, women are emotional), which actually was good for her – it made her more confident and positive, and turned her to become a risk-taker; it was like kerosene that ignited her passions. A careful lady who turned to become a carefree one – her goal in life is not to become a general manager or become rich; all she wanted is to live a life that would inspire others to pursue their passions and live a meaningful and happier life. If you want to run, travel, hike, dance, be weird, pig out, cry, volunteer, or simply wants someone to give you a push, I’m your gal! Life is too short to sit on the couch and let time pass you by. Take risks. Your life is a story; make it worth reading!

Dream BIG, RUN Strong

Polen is a professional accountant. She is usually described as a petite and quiet girl who turned out to be different in many ways (oh well, looks can be deceiving). People mostly think she’s tough and brave. But they just don’t know that she has her fears kept intact, so it won’t come out easily.

Once upon a time, she believed that success is getting on top of the corporate ladder. There is nobody to blame; this is how most people define success. Things have changed when she learned about people who pursued their passion, succeeded, and is living a happy life. It was a turning point that made her redefine success and look into possible options on how to achieve it. It looks very difficult, like a 360-degree turnaround from her usual life, but it must be worth a try as she believes that if somebody has done it, then it is possible to achieve.

Get Out Dear is a mantra we tell ourselves when we want to do or achieve something but lacks the courage to take the first step. It may be anything like a fear to conquer, a passion to pursue, a goal to accomplish, or a place to visit.

This is a journal of us trying to be brave and conquering our fears, big or small. This aims to inspire you to listen to your heart’s desires and turn your dreams to reality. You will never know what lies beyond your comfort zone if you never try to cross its boundary. Go open that door and get out, dear!
